Accessibility notes:
This Inescapable City is an audio-piece to be experienced in the presence of any body of water. If enjoying it from home is most comfortable and accessible to you, please sit and listen with a glass, a sink, or a tub of water nearby to look at. For those who would like to access the text of the piece in writing, there is a transcript available via link on this page.
There are two moments at 8:06 and 15:36 that feature a sudden loud noise that could be startling or uncomfortable for some
The suggested location for experiencing this piece is along the Halifax Waterfront, and accessibility info and access instructions pertain to that location. You can experience it at any time of the day, we suggest before, during, or just after sunset. You are encouraged to move along the shoreline, if that is comfortable for you, if not, find a location where you can be stationary, looking out at the water.
The waterfront is wheelchair accessible. The boardwalk is made from slats of flat wood. It is a popular tourist area, so there are often crowds of people walking along the boardwalk. The piece is best enjoyed at a slow pace, so it can accommodate navigating crowds.
The suggested starting point for the piece is The Nova Scotia Visitor Information Centre, right beside the well known and unmistakable sculpture "The Wave." If you choose to move while enjoying the piece, we suggest sticking to the boardwalk that hugs the shoreline.
The closest bus stop to this starting point is near the intersection of Lower Water St. and Sackville St. where the 29 and the 90 run in both directions. All Halifax Transit busses are Accessible Low floor models and have a ramp that can be deployed at the request of the rider.
